raising roof ehight on part of 3 car garage

The access to the attic is through a pull down ladder. I do not want to climb up the pulldown ladder and crawl around through the rafters to put storage boxes (many) in the attic. The attic is not high enough to use as a room. Do not want it as living space. Do want to continue to use as storage with easier, safer access. The air handler is up also in the attic. I want to build regular stairs from one of the garage bays up into part of attic that is tall enough to use for storage without crawling through all of the roof joists for safety. I need a new roof so now is the opportunity.
