Raising overhead joists in my garage. Is this a good idea?

P.S. sorry I missed your last question.....
I didn't have it inspected. I probably would have if it was anything other than a hip roof, but considering there will be minimal load to the joists, I decided not to. I cut a 22.5 degree slope on the tops, at the ends of the joists so they'd sit flush on the bottom of each rafter (9 total). Under the joists at the ends are hangers and last night I nailed tie plates to the sides of the joists and rafters. I'm still going to tie 2x2s from the middle of the joists to the rafters for additional support in the middle, but after that, I'm done. Thanks!
