RAISING A FLAT ROOF TO A SLOPED ROOF + Heat+great room reno
We have a 120 year old home that had several additions over time. One has a flat roof that has now started accumulating ice water and leaking. We have long wanted to slope it down and are ready. At the same time we had a radiator pipe in the crawl space below burst in the same room while out of power after a ice storm and have no heat there at the same time. Plus we have no insulation so we need to open the walls for that too. Did not want to do it this year but here we go!
The room is 14x17 and is at the south west corner of the house and we are planning to add 2 skylights as well as open the back wall to windows and sliding doors as well we need heat! It is a step down from a 14X17 kitchen that I would like the same floors in...preferably not tile. There is a crawl space under but it is inaccessible unless we rip out the flooring. But we need to so that we can insulate. I would like 2 sources of heat- just in case one has trouble later...easier to run wiring now. Also I dont want tile in my adjacent kitchen....any thoughts on sloping roofs, heating sources that are not forced air, insulating crawl spaces, skylights, or any thing else you think may help?
