rafter ties

Hi,

Anyone recommend a good rafter to ridge connector. I tried one from Lowes today and it would not keep the rafter flush to the ridge. Also, when the rafter sits on the top plate do you need a hurricane tie on the inside and outside. If you put one on the inside wouldn't that prevent the ceiling joist from laying flush next to the rafter?

rafter ties

a 2x4 nailed under the ridge board against the sides of the rafters works. Looks like the letter A

Maybe I don't understand but you could just toe nail the rafters to the ridge and put a rafter tie in as Gary suggested.
Hurricane ties work on both inside and outside. As far as the ceiling joist not laying flush, just flip the tie around and put it on the other side of the rafter.

Edit: I just realized that you probably have the diamond shaped rafter ties, those won't work with the ceiling joists.
