Sorry about all these newb questions.
I'm just putting up the rafters in my portico now. I've got the two end rafters up. The space is 38" where I need rafters. Do I evenly space them or keep as many on sixteens and have the last one spaced differently.
TIA
Split the distance, since you are working out material lengths, it would be fine. We typically frame on 24's for roofs, rarely on 16's. If you notice, on tape measures, there ie a black diamond mark at about 19 and 3/8 inches, repeating. This splits 16 and 24 to make 5 spaces in 8 feet instead of 4 or 6.
I'm going to wrap up the framing today.
Let me see if I have this right,
my choice is to either:
Evenly space the rafters @ 12.75" OC for a total of 4 rafter sets (1/2 ply)
Space @ 16s with the outer 2 sets of rafters at about 5" OC (1/2 ply)
Or just add one more set of rafters spaced at around 19.5" (3/4 ply)
All of these will pass code, correct?
Also attaching the rafters to the top plate I'm both using hurricane ties and toe nailing through the birds mouth. Is that correct?
