Radiant floor heating info?

Were building a 2500 sq' garage with a 14' ceiling, 5-1/2" floor thickness. Heat will be supplied by a outdoor wood burner via radiant floor heating.
Does anyone here have a site that can help me with the info I need for the install.

For example:

-total length for the pex I'll need
-how to "properly" run the zones
-how many zones for 2500 sq' area
-fittings and associated hardware

Thanks in advance...Tony

That's just a vendor. Try www.radiantpanelassociation.org. They are nothing but hydronic radiant help.

"Just" a vendor with lots of good info and even a free design/installation manual download.

Radiant floor heating info?

There's a ton of information out there... I just looked at the manual from the other post and it's got some good info. In the past I used http://www.pexsupply.com/index.asp and have been very pleased with them.

I'd like to throw out as a side question -- there's a few companies promoting the use of foil/poly wrapped bubble wrap material as an insulating material under slab. I've also heard the local radiant film guy say that it exceeds standard under slab methods. Are these snake oil claims? I find it hard to believe that the FBBWP provides the same insulation value as 2" styrofoam. I can see where the radiant blanket would slow the radiant heat transfer, but not affect the temperature differental between the soil and the concrete.

Radiant floor heating info?

I bought a Wirsbo design guide when I did my system.

In general use 1/2" pex, keep the loops under 300'. There is a difference between loops and zones. There can be multiple loops in one zone. A zone is basically an area controlled by a thermostat. I have 3 zones in my basement in 5 rooms supplied by 9 loops. The big family room has 5 loops itself then the 3 bedrooms and one bath have their own loops.

I layed the tube with the supply water coming in, in front of the window/exterior wall and about a 10 space between loops. As the loops get away from the window, they can get further apart but I kept mine pretty consistant. I installed the tube on 2" high density (pink 250) foam using the plastic staples and stand up gun.

Get an uncoiler, makes the job much easier. Use long sweep PVC ells in tight bends. I also ran the pex through PCV where it ran over the footings.

I used about 2000 feet of tube in the basement roughly 34x56.

I'm heating with a 16KW Argo electic boiler and using Wirsbo manifolds, zone control and ProPanel to control temp and pump the water.
