Quiet Rock vs Green Glue

Building a drum room in my garage (18x11). I'm not 100% sure about using sound isolation clips and hat channels. Thinking about using R-19 Ultra Touch Cotton Insulation (STC 57) (walls and roof rafters) and 2 layers of sheetrock with 3 tubes of Green Glue in between, or QuietRock 525 over the "blue jean" insulation. Boarded up the windows and removed garage door and installed 36x80 wood door. Opinions, recommendations?

Decouple the walls with framing not clips

Use standard insulation. There is no data that says cotton is better.

Make the walls and ceiling as heavy as possible with double 5/8" drywall. Just standard, cheap but heavy drywall. The added mass will provide great assistance in helping control the low frequencies.

Thanks Ted. Can you explain decoupling walls with framing rather than clips. Is this adding a second wall?

Do you have an opinion about using DUROCK® cement board Next Gen over the wood studs and then 2 layers of 5/8 drywall with 2-3 tubes of Green Glue?

Also, any suggestions on sound damping the garage concrete floor?

The second wall would provide the decoupling, rather than the clips.

Regarding the cement board, you could do that, however the cement board is simply more mass. I'd stick with drywall as it's easier, faster and cheaper.

I'd leave the garage floor alone, as it is already massive.

It's a good general guide. They depend heavily on STC ratings, which do not include low frequencies. The problem is that a "high STC" wall will likely not satisfy in the real world. The most common complaints are with sound that is below what STC measures. This would be bass.
