question on warped wall

I recently installed laminate in our family room.

(As an aside, I read and read and read every post here and on contractortalk.com before starting and, as a result, chose the right tools, saw blades, learned how not to chip the top layer of laminate, and all sorts of nifty things that made the job much smoother for a newbie! Thanks!!)

As I got to the last long wall, I realized it was warped! A lot. On the other side of this warped place is the oven.

I don't know if the drywall is what has warped or if the studs have moved. How do I find out (without ripping it all out to look) and what do I do with it when I've found out?

I could live with the warp as is (it's not that bad)... soooo... how do I keep it from warping even more?

Hello Missy. Glad to hear that things went so well. When you say warped do you mean a large bow in wall or does it go in and out in several locations? How old is the house? How much is it warped in inches? I would check the other side of the wall and see if it is the same way. If it is an outside wall check to see if it is visible or if you see any places where it may be moving on the foundation. If it's only warped by about 1/2" or so I would not worry about it. It could be that the drywall or plaster was not properly attached to the studs. Even in new home construction nothing is perfect and you have to check for that and adjust accordingly.

It is one large bow... I have not pulled out the stove on the other side to check and see if THAT wall is bowed also, but I will this afternoon.

I would estimate that it is bowed a little less than 1/4" so it's not as bad as all that. The house is about 16 years old.

Next question... how do I warp the quarter round (I haven't nailed it down yet) to match the warp? Should I just muscle it down? And hope it doesn't splinter?

If it's only a 1/4" that's nothing. The quarter round will push into position. Around here if you say bowed it's at least 2".

Agree with above on new stuff not being built perfectly.

Heck after installing sheetrock on the ceiling in the last room I remodeled, I found out that the last piece of sheetrock had to be cut on an angle (not huge, but enough that would have left a decent gap had we cut it straight)

Nothing is ever perfect. The problem however, is that you will glance at the imperfections every time you go into the room. Other people will never inspect it that closely

The quarter round is flexible and should easily conform to this 1/4" warp.
