Question about a header


embeth, you only need a header if the floor joists above are 18' span and the roof, ceiling support a 70# per sq.ft. snow load; http://publicecodes.citation.com/ico...002_par021.htm

You will, however, need an electrical permit for the hood fan power and possibly a HVAC permit for it as well. To satisfy your H.O.Insurance carrier if ever a claim......
