Putting up 2 walls in basement using PVC as frame.
I need to make two temporary corner walls to finish a bedroom for my 8 year old in the basement. My plan was to construct the frames using PVC and cover it with something like plywood or drywall using PVC screws. Do you think this work?

Do you have an egress window in the bedroom?

I would not use PVC--if there is a fire the smoke from the PVC could be deadly.
Also mighty pricey compared to wood.

Surely you already know the answer to that question. Anybody considering such a construction method in the first place knows nothing of codes. And I'm not sure where you can buy PVC screws.

PVC screws are next to the window paint.
OP, if there isn't a window in the basement for your son to get out in case of a fire, it is an unsafe and illegal place for him to sleep. If there is a window, it is a much better idea to frame the wall with lumber.
Just curious, why the idea to use PVC?

Just wondering are you a landscaper?

Sure I do. Now lets see how many people here will help this guy even though he will be doing it illegally. People here don't care if he has no egress window and his son could die if there was a fire.....they will just tell him what to use to frame the walls. Hopefully I will be proved wrong on this one.

Well maybe we'll see.
What she is proposing is both illegal and a crime against humanity to say nothing of the lack of smarts to even want to do such a thing. The PVC has me baffled I'll admit. I wonder...PVC what.
She may not even come back after seeing these responses. Hopefully we haven't jumped the gun.

If she comes back I'm sure we can help her build a simple .safe and removable partition for her daughters room.

Do you ever have anything positive to say?
And which people are you referring too?

Joe - are you in need of the sarcasm button or are you serious? I'm pretty sure the consensus here is that unless there is an egress window it is an unsafe idea.
I am also pretty sure that if the OP gives us some more info (ie, there is an egress window) people will help her; but will not or never will endorse framing in a bedroom in a basement with no egress window.
It's more than a liability issue; it's a moral issue.

I think it just may be that some folks here don't like to make so many assumptions, as you apparently are fond of.
Who know's if there's an egress window? Who knows if it's a walk-out basement? Who know's if their child is a boy? Who know's if the poster is a "guy"?

I'm guessing Miriam is not a boy, all the others, as you say Jomama, are unknown until the OP elects to enlighten us.

Maybe we should be asking: "Eight year old what"?
Maybe it's a parrot.
