putting shelves in wardrobe

When we got a new bedroom set, we gave up alot of storage. My sweaters and jeans are piled in a wardrobe made for a large tv. I bought some sheets of pressed board with oak laminate for shelves, but don't know how to put them in since the walls of the wardrobe are thin. I have 2x6 pcs of pine that I thought I could put on each end to support the shelves, but it's going to look like crap. Any better suggestions?

Glue vertical pieces of wood to the side of the unit. Stain them so they blend in with the interior. Attach adjustable shelf runners to the wood and hang the shelves.
