PS. you could add a 4x4 in the crotch above the ceiling joist where the rafters have bearing in your latest pics, to help keep the rafters from splitting under snow loads. Add more nails at the ceiling joist/rafter connection.
thanks gary! so the main concern here is the load on the rafters. let me go read the link you posted

ok so i read page38 with the rafter-heel thing. yea so due to the wall on the other side, we just cut the studs flush to sit right below the rafter. there wasnt enough room to cut the rafter to create the heel for the studs to sit on. make sense?

2nd edit-yea i think the rafter ties/joists are in the upper half of the rafters. but if we bring the ties lower, it would make the ceiling even lower than it is.

basically this house is a complete F*CK piece of SH1T. i want to just stick drywall up and forget everything.
we are already over $20K into this thing

Besides those stated by Gary.
You have now possibly (We still do not know what load those rafters carry if any?) basically doubled the load on each side of the opening. Which could cause your floor/ceiling below to sag or break.

Because you cut the bottom of the rafter flat where it goes into the hanger you will need to add to the studs on the rest of the wall to bring the drywall out flush all across the wall, or have it built out in that area.

Your door opening is 6' - code here is 80" minimum.

Looking at the pics on page 5, it appears the ceiling joists stop on that wall rather than going to the rafters (and bolted), designed by an engineer, as mentioned already.

Now you have the ceiling joists bearing on the wall that is mid-span bearing of the floor joists over the living room- not good. The shortened rafters are not carrying much weight IF the shed rafters span to the ridge and are properly sized. Then you only have the ceiling weight bearing on the new header (which may be too much for the floor joists below (measure the span/species/depth and compare to prescriptive Code charts));http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/ic...?bu2=undefined

Then add the added weight of 1/2 the drywall/framing to that 30# (sleeping room) or 40# per square foot total load. This is why you need a S.E. for the liability to satisfy your H.O Insurance concerns.

so we did have an engineer come out and take a look, and he said it was ok to put the opening in. i can post the drawing he made for us if you guys like.

so the thing i may not have mentioned before-this part of the house with the shortened rafters is the original side. there is an addition to the house that is the reason for my other thread. so when they did the addition, i believe they rendered these rafters useless, as you can see in the picture. make sense?

the opening we made is 4ft wide, 6ft tall. we are not putting a door in the opening. its just an opening.

For some reason the pics won't load beyond a narrow strip at top on my puter, so I really got nothin to say.
From what GBR sez, you do need to do somethin about the hangers. In addition to the load on roof splitting rafters, it will also contribute to rafter spread, that is the tendency of rafters to push supporting exterior walls outwards. That was one reason several of us wee concerned about connection of new shed rafters to old rafters and connection at ridge.And why I brought up possibility of extending rafter ties in old roof and connecting to rafter or rafter/joists under shed roof..
