Project Expenses

Hello,

Do any of you know if it is legal to ask your contractor for a list of the project expenses after the project is done. My contractor is telling me that he's over budget and I'd like to see why but am not sure if I'm overstepping my boundary in asking for the balance sheet of my project expenditures. Anyone know?

Ok nevermind. It looks like it would be difficult to obtain. I just found this on contractortalk.com but can't post links so

niu,
You should be able to ask your contractor at any time for a breakdown of expenditures. If it is a long project would ask for report at least every 2 months. I realize I may be upsetting some folks here, but you hired him and he reports to you.
There are prices that fluctuate (wood, copper, and the like) but the base rate should be expected and not over the bid price.
