price to put new rafters on roof

this old house

the length of my house is 28' that needs new rafters and 22' width and new ridge board , a contracter told me he would do it for 500 not including materials. does this sound good. the old rafters where 2x4x14. and did not have a ridge board. thanks applachin,ny

I don't know where you are but that would be a steal here just for setting them. I might think about it for 3 times that much.

I don't want the contractors here to take any offense, but some of these fly by night "contractors" are ridiculous and really make it tough for you real pros out there. I've seen and heard too many horror stories in my neighboorhood.
If I'm looking for professional help, I'm verifying with the BBB, Nari, town, etc. Even then I'm not at ease until it's done.
