pressure treated, big box vs lumber yard

I know there is a difference in 5/4" boards, what about 2"x's and 6"x6"'s? (quality & color)

Usually also a difference in price, local lumberyard is less expensive, and usually better quality.

The difference, other than price, is whether it is #1 or#2 which is a cosmetic difference in the number of defects. Shop around for prices. I never use treated lumber for decks any more. A comparable/cheaper wood alternative would be stk cedar even though it needs more maintenance.

There are different structural grades as mentioned, appearance is a minor factor, span distance critical. Cedar can be used for a deck surface, not framing structurally with most Building Departments due to it's low structural rating.

What is the application?
