Preferred Fence Wood?

I am about to start a small fence project. 30 feet, five posts --one every six feet; will use cement for the posts and bury 36" with an appropriate base as fence is going to be on a slight grade. Actual panels will be 12" off of the ground and posts will be the only portion of the fence in contact with the ground.

I have my plans drawn and I am ready go go but I just can't decide on what wood to use!

After doing some research I think that I want to use redwood for this application. I know that I am not at all interested in using composite.

Which wood would you use and why. This is a small fence and I am not even remotely concerned about price --money is no object.

Redwood, cedar, cypress, ipe, etc.?

I live in the lower midwest and winters are generally mild but springs are somewhat wet and winters do afford the chance for the occasional heavy snow and frost heave so the wood must stand up to the elements. I do not mind applying a protectant to the wood on an annual basis if need be.

Thanks in advance for you opinions.

Preferred Fence Wood?

I have always liked cedar myself, not just for the look but it takes stain a lot better. Keep the dirt off the post.

Out of your choices, Cedar will be the most "Cost effective" material...
