Pre-Manufactured Trusses or not?

I am doing a 32x8 porch addition to the front of my home. I need to build trusses to span 32 feet and am trying to decide between scissor trusses or vaulted trusses.

#1 - is it possible to span 32 feet with scissor trusses or vaulted trusses? I live in Greenville, SC, no reason for snow loads, but ice storms are a factor.
#2 - I keep hearing that pre-man'd trusses are cheaper to purchase than building on-site.

Suggestions or "gotcha" items that I may not be thinking about?

Trusses are a great option when supporting a conventionally framed roof might present challenges. Trusses aren't going to save you big bucks over conventional framing (or materials) but they're a great time saver and the quality control is great. Long spans can be achieved.

Contact a truss manufacturer in your area directly. Don't go through a box store or a lumber yard if you can avoid it. Usually the manufacturer will deal directly with you.

Another plus is that the truss manufacturer will do all of your load calculations for you and provide the documentation required for the building inspector.

Price out the trusses from a couple truss manufacturers - I think you will like the price. The quality, labor, and time savings are reason alone to go with trusses.

Thanks for following up! Looks like it was a great way to go for your project, and reasonably priced too.

The poster that you are asking, has not been back on this site in 2 years.

Also, the pricing that they listed is 2.5 years old.

Just thought I'd mention this all to you.
