pre built shower pans or custom built?

i'm considering putting in a shower in the basement and it'll be pretty small. I've looked at the plastic stalls offered in HD and find them to be boring yet $$$. I'm considering doing a custom shower stall and was wondering how much effort will be needed for DIY-ers that have already ventured down this road?

would you do it again?

It requires a skill set most homeowners have a hard time successfully achieving the first time out. You can buy the Schluter preformed pans which is easier, but is not cheap. The last one I did, 30" x60", ran about $500. This base you tile.
You can buy an acrylic 36x36 base for about $450.

I am considering this option for an upcoming project -

Do the research, Bud Cline has a blog I am sure would be helpful, I first timed it and yes I would do it again, it really isn't that difficult, just a bit of hard work.

Its the only answer for obscure customs sizes, built properly will last forever, built incorrectly, well it will leak.

There is a company I believe is called Mark Industries, they have a good product to ensure the preslope and final slope is correct as well as the curb form.

check out www.kerdi-board.com. my brother (who has been doing professional renovations and remodels for years) speaks very highly of it.
