Pour footer in sections?

Is there a preferred method for handling a cold joint in a footer?

I'm thinking of making a plywood end cap that has holes for the rebar to pass through and a wood block on the pour side to make a keyway for the next pour.

Why would you want to pour in sections?

Need more information.

what john said footers have NO jnts,,, on the off chance you're placing a foundation where you can't get redimix mud, place the footer in sections w/header as you outlined AND include the keyway,,, wrap keyway & header w/wax'd paper which'll help you release the next day

Pour footer in sections?

I'm working in a space where I can't get redimix so I'd work from bags.

If I do the work myself I wouldn't be able to get it all done in one batch so I was considering breaking the job into sections.

Thanks for the wax paper tip.

On large jobs footings are poured in sections all the time. The method you described will work fine.

Brickie is correct. And keys are highly recommended.
