Porch clearances near the property line

I am looking to build an overhead porch connected to the front house, however Im not sure if there has to be a certain distance between the property line and the end of the porch width to be able to pass inspection in Los Angeles. Does any one know what that clearance must be?

The only way to find out is to ask the local building and zoning office.

They vary widely and individual properties may have different requiremnts.

Many localities do not allow you to add a large structure to the front of the house.
Entrance foyers are allowed around here, but front porches are not.
