Popcorn Ring

I just cut a new 4" hole in my ceiling to move a ceiling fan over about a foot. Anyways, I used a hole saw and saved the piece to fill in the old hole. What would be the best way to fill in the ring gap in the popcorn? Should I remove the old layer of popcorn and re-texture it to blend it in with the old?

Here are some pictures:

Popcorn Ring

You'll have to scrape around it about 3", and the plug. Then tape (paper) the cut line and 2 more coats of mud, then buy a can of spray texture (popcorn, then prime and paint. Yours looks painted.
Be safe, G
