Pool house

I am looking to build a 14x16 pool house.
My question is I would like to extend the roof 8 feet on the 14 foot side to create a covered patio area. there would be a post on the two front corners of the roof for support.
I spoke with a home builder friend and he suggested that if I wanted to do this that I would need to use engineered beams that would run the entire length of the roof.

Is this really necesary or is he just over engineering it?

Will the 8' roof have support posts at each end ?
When you say off the 14' side is that off one side of the roof ?
Or the pool cabana will be 14' long + another 8' roof without walls & its 16' wide ?

Car ports are built all the time without an engineered ridge beam

Yes the building is 14 feet deep with an additional 8 ft covered patio and 16 feet wide. I will have a post at the front corners of the overhang.
