Please help!! Old brick house

I just bought a house that needs remodeling. My fiance and I have figured out what we wanna do to the inside, but we are at a complete loss for how to improve the appearance of the outside. Its a very dark brown shade of brick. I would be willing to do a whitewash or stain the brick, but prefer not to paint it. I would like any suggestions to improve the curb appeal not just advice on the brick, thanks!!

You roof makes up at least 65% of your curb appeal.You can have your roof cleaned provided your contractor of choice is experienced with proper technique.,I do not recommend a first time DIY'r to dive into this procedure because it can get ugly quick.How many layers are on your roof? What is the approx.time has your roof been on your home? Take a few pix of the front and sides and rear of your home and post them.Many people/contractors are here to help you along the way.

I would try other improvements before messing around with the brick. You could try new shutters, or a front patio, or paint the trim, or some new gardens or plantings, or even train a vine to grow up the bricks. You could also change out the supports on the overhang, get rid of the screen door and get a nice new front door. There are a lot of possibilities. This could be a very cute home.

That is pretty much exactly what I would suggest. Leave the brick alone.

I would re-do the porch in your favorite porch style. Supports and a railing, and then do something with the yard.
I'd leave the brick alone. The dark color will make the lighter color trim things pop.

I would leave the brick alone

Clean-up the garden on the left of the porch

Change the over hang supports and add a nice railing

Ditch or paint the shutters

Add a garden infront of the porch

Clean-up the yard and try and get some grass growing, looks like sand base, Florida?, you'll need lots of water, lots and lots to keep the grass growing.

Add 1 more vote for "leave the brick alone."

You have TONS of things to do to the house, and the yard, to improve its look and curb appeal. Do those things first.

I once saw a dramatic transformation in the look of a house when the bricks were stucco'ed. Applying layers of stucco changes the look; binds all the brick together making for a solid mass; and makes them waterproof. The stucco binds directly to the brick and mortar joints. You can use a masonry paint to paint the house (a lighter shade) or apply a thin synthetic stucco layer with coloring. You will want to check with your local code restrictions.

lots you can do,i personally wouldn't coat the brick,try gently cleaning it,it may brighten up,re paint the trim,new front door change out the porch columns,new shutters,add a nice walkway and some landscaping

Absolutely! Just clean the brick. Perhaps a new,fairly small, gabled entry way with a couple appropriate columns to sort of reach out and invite one in.
With two short walls leading back to the house of the same brick and a concrete cap.
Not a huge expense but would look great.
New paint on the painted area and landscaping and voila.

Thanks for all the input...It's hard to see anything helping that brick. Its so dark it almost looks black. Should I change the roof color? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated!
