Platform for storage shed

I'm planning on purchasing a 7x7 storage shed. My lot runs high on the left and slopes down to the right and what I'm wanting to do is build a nice level platform for the shed to stand on. I was thinking about 4x4 posts set in concrete for each corner, and 2x6 for the joists. Would that be overkill? Would it be ok to use 2x4 instead of 2x6 and would I really need posts set in concrete?

It all depends on what is going in the shed. A lumber company (or Google) can give you approx loads for 2 by Xs, and for a shed that should be good nuff. IMO, 2x4, 16" OC, and 1/2" plywood should do for lawn mowers, yard tools, etc. Take a 2x4 on edge, support it with two blocks about 7' apart, and jump on it. Happy? Then use 2x4; if not, 2x6. I would use those pre-made concrete platforms with adjustable support bolts to hold the shed up. (Truncated pyramids.) Can't remember the name of them, but HoDePo, etc, carry them. Them and 2 short beams should suffice, and then you can move the shed later. GL. j

I'm just going to be putting push mower, weed eater, gas can, etc in it, so there really shouldn't be any real load concerns.

Kinda embarrassed to say but I've never attempted anything like this before. I have a general idea of what I'm doing, but I'd rather do what's needed than way too much...

you could build a small retaining wall and level the area with free draining gravel...would make it nice

Why embarrassed? Do you think everybody here (on anywhere) knows everything about everything? Not even close. Yes, the gravel idea is another good option.
