Plastering Over Ceramic Tiles

HI CAT,
TRY TO SCRAPE THE GROUT OFF IF YOU CAN, USUALLY GROUT IS WATERBASED AND BY APPLYING PLASTER TO IT MAY LOOSEN IT FROM THE WALL,
SHOULD YOU WANT TO PLASTERSKIM OVER CERAMIC TILES THIS SHOULD BE OK BUT FIRST OF ALL, IF THEY HAVE BEEN PAINTED OVER, HOPEFULLY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SPECIAL CERAMIC PAINT, OR OIL BASED PAINT ie GLOSS, BUT MAKE SURE THAT THIS PAINT IS WELL ADHERED TO THE SURFACE FOR A START OFF, THEN YOU WILL NEED TO SEAL THE TILES WITH A WATERBASED "PVA" SEALER (UNIBOND OR SOMETHING OF THE SORT) BUT DO NOT MIX IT WITH VERY MUCH WATER BECAUSE IT IS NOT A POROUS SURFACE (IT SHOULD TELL YOU ON THE CONTAINER) LET THIS DRY OFF THEN SKIM AS NORMAL, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE PLASTER MAY SHRINK BACK VERY SLIGHTLY WHEN IT DRIES, SO GIVE IT A SKIM, THEN ONCE THE PLASTER IS DRY ENOUGH THAT WHEN YOU TOUCH IT IT DOESNT MARK EASY SKIM OVER AGAIN
I HOPE THAT THIS HELPS YOU
DALE
