Plasterboard Wall and Heavy Mirror

I have a thin plasterboard wall that I have been trying to fix a heavy mirror to. Problem is......................I can get one self drill plasterboard fixing to fit with the hook type screw supplied with the mirror but the other self drill thing won't take the screw and turns with it then falls out! When I poke through the hole in the wall I can hear plastic, I am assuming this is the cavity insulation. I now have 4 large holes in my flamin wall and am none too happy.

The fixing supplied with the mirror is pretty large about 8mm thick and the thread is around 2cm.

I would appreciate the help as the amount I have spend on fixings I could have built a brick wall!

Cheers!
W

Plasterboard Wall and Heavy Mirror

Hey W

It almost sound to me the intended this mirror screw to go into a stud. Is the hook supplied with the mirror decretive as well or could you use a different type?
