pink insulation has darkening areas

Blowing in a new layer of insulation, and in prepping have found some of the older pink rolls to have areas where the pink insulation is darkening. Sort of a charcoal/blackish color - usually near areas where air can come up thru the ceiling (drywall seams, near top plates).Should I replace/pull out this insulation before blowing another layer over it?

that is an indication that air is passing thru the fiberglass, and dirt is being filtered out by the glass fibers

i would pull out the dirty insulation and air seal any penetrations using spray foam or caulk

should you reuse the old? depends on how dirty it is i guess but you want to make sure that there is no mold on it

that is why you should be using vapor barrier and seam tape so no air flows though.
