Picket fence spacing

I am trying to place pickets flush with fence posts but am having trouble with spacing the rest of the pickets evenly across section. Tried some math formulas that I found on line but they don't seem to work. Any suggestions much appreciated

calculate the approximate spacing and install them from each end.
adjust a few spaces in the middle and nobody will notice them.

Don't drive yourself crazy trying to get it exact - when finished minor variations will not be noticable.

Wow, take the total space between the post. ok now how wide is the picket. what would you like as a space between the pickets. ok you have all you need. total space between post minus how wide one picket is. take that number and devide by how wide one picket is plus the spacing you would like to have. if you got an even number thins is how many picket and spaces oh and plus on picket if the number was not even the ajust the spacing width up or down to get an even figure. if all the post are not the same (space between) you will need to do this for each section. Oh and as for nobody will notice them and when finished minor variations will not be noticable. this is bull I will notice and you will notice too and one day someone will notice and say something and you will feel sick take the time and get it right do it for you.

Key words here are 'minor' and 'slight'. Now suddenly changing the spacing near the end of a run by 1/2 maybe 1/4 inch would be noticeable.
Keep your variation within 1/8 or less and it will not assuming your normal picket spacing is over an inch.

I take the pickets, however many I need to be within my 4” spacing per code in my area and put the stock up against one of the post (because a 2x2 can vary a 1/16 or so and that add’s up) and measure the distance between the post and the post with my picket stock against it, divide it by the number of spaces and there you go.

I do the same thing with my mid span post's after I have the end post set so they are evenly spaced.
