pergola framing ?

i am planning on adding brackets on the end wall of my addition that stick out 3' and creating a pergola roof to bock some sun. I didn't want to run tall header beams but maybe a double or triple 2x6 or 2x8....
how far apart can I span these brackets? thanks

It is a free country, you can span them however much you want on your own property.

Andy.

I think there's no standard size for a pergola frame. So far I've seen pergola frame about 12x16-20. There shouldn't be a problem with the size you have in mind.

is there a recommended span between supports? I am looking at around 12' to 18' between supporting brackets..... and don't want it to sag in the middle in time.....
