Patio Steps

Hey guys, I have an aggregate patio that I want to build some wood patio steps for. I am thinking of using two step stringers (the 24inx7.5in variety at HD) and starting about 4 inches below the patio (ie landing NOT flush with the patio). Is drilling a 2x4 baseboard into aggregate is similar to doing so in concrete? What type of screws or anchors should I use? What are your thoughts overall? Thanks.

The aggregate is about 12in tall in this picture. As you can see, there has been some erosion away from the patio.

Patio Steps

The steps need to be of equal height and should be between 6 1/2"-8 1/2".
