So now I don't have a clue where to start next. I found this site and I am asking all the HELP I can get.

Patio Cover on a 4" slab - HELP

Might help to know where the patio is situated? Right next to house? An overhead view diagram would help.
I think main problem would be that any structure you put on top of this slab will need footings for the structure posts holding up the roofing.
If you are in a freeze zone (where do you live?), these footings usually need to go down to the frost depth (maybe 36-48"). Your 4" slab will not usually be sufficiently strong for posts to rest on them.

Patio Cover on a 4" slab - HELP

How big is your patio and how big a cover do you want. Some metal patio covers are light enough to sit on the 4" concrete slab. A wood or heavy metal construction one might be to much weight for the slab.
