Patio

I retired 10 years ago and bought this older house in Mililani, HI. Along one side of the house was a deck with a Whirlpool on one end. Recently I had to demolish the deck because of servere termite damage. I originally thought that I would just pave it with concrete, but after watching a show on the DIY channel, I wonder what would be more cost effective; concrete slab, pavers or a deck with the newer materials available today. I would appreciate any assistance. jdi

Tough call in Hawaii, don’t know how old your deck was and if it was pressure treated. Today all structural wood used for framing in HI. Must be treated. I would think a slab would be less expensive since you don’t have to import concrete. I have a good fiend and contractor on Oahu, I’ll give him a call tonight and see what he thinks on apples and oranges.
