Paint on stone

What kind of paint? Is the stone sealed?

If it is water based acrylic, a little steel or brass brush will probably do the trick. If it really was nice paint is adhering? Try a little Krud Kutter, Goof Off, Ooops first. Check these chemicals do not stain the stone and make the stone look worse than the overspray though.
