Outside Baluster Spacing


i found these thick, brass globes i might be able to work in. wood stained now too, looks nicer. note doggie in the window. she's our newest throwaway. just got her spayed and finished her shots.
(she's a shepski lol) =o) thank you for all your help and advise. maybe when i'm done with this place i'll post a whole set of pics!

i can fill them with concrete and sink a lag screw in them! they'd be locked down then! =o) i also will be adding a support triangle under the handrail at the newel post and lag them together tighter. then the 3" or so handrail bottoms. what do you guys think so far?

framed in 2x6 treated, i plan on 'hiding' them with the stair tread scraps. thanks! still trying to figure out a unique way to cap the posts.....

the brass globes seemed to create moisture underneath, so no to them. this is what i ended up doing. hope y'all like it. thanks for the ideas!

tnkx KC.... the wife says they look like arab turbans,,,,lol i just used the handrail scraps for the tops and sliced them up the middle for the bottom moulding. worked out well i think.

what kind of wood and finish is that?

I had a cedar deck on a house that looked similar. It was finished with Sikkens stain that was like friggin black ice in the winter... absolutely unwalkable! I tore it apart, flipped the boards, planed them and reinstalled one weekend. Ended up staining it forest green, lol

crecore, the wood is australian jarrah and brazilian walnut (recycled), natural stain, and yes, it will be slippery as heck in winter. lucky for us it's the back yard and will not be used in winter much if at all.

Did you use the brass globes for the top of the posts? I couldn't see it in the last picture. That's a good way to use the rest of the handrail.
