One more Soundproofing Question...

I am about to complete an addition with a staggered wall, which will receive double drywall, GG and sound acoustic sealant. I purposely bought extra GG for various areas where I will be wanting to dampen sound. A few of these areas have drywall with the older style of large texturing (not popcorn...).

If I install 5/8" drywall with GG over these walls that have the texture, will there be an impact on the effectiveness of the soundproofing, since the texture will prevent flush placement?

Good question. If the texture is light, you're fine. If heavy popcorn or texture, you'll have to knock down the peaks. You might try spraying some warm water to see if it budges. If you feel you need to.

Hi Ted.

Apologies for the delayed response. I have one section that the texture is a bit high, so I'll be scraping that down.

Thanks for all of your input in this and other threads. Your knowledgeable advice is greatly appreciated.

One more Soundproofing Question...

Hello again, Ted. Another question (somebody stop me... ):

The staggered stud wall mentioned in my OP...would it be of any benefit to run a bead of SilenSeal caulking on the studs prior to sheet placement?

Again, thank you.

That's also a good question. There's no benefit.
