Old siding replacement

Hi

House has siding that’s some sort of hard Vinyl / plastic (i did say metal orginally), its very plain in design, about 8 inches high, just a flat surface that overlap. Has separate corners (will get picture).

We think fitted early to mid 1980's, any idea if there is a replacement as certain parts need to be replaced and a chimney is being removed so needs new parts put in.

Dont really want to replace the whole siding yet...

yes you can get it at any siding supply house

Actually, finding aluminum siding could be difficult. Check building supply houses, usually only available in 8" white, and if you find it , it will not match what you have. You old stuff is aged and faded.

UPDATE
My bad, this isnt metal (at least not the part i have taken a picture of), its some sort of plastic / hard
Vinyl (which has been painted, as there are spray marks on a post nearby the some color as the house).

Pics here.

From the pics, it looks like an old siding that was made by Gold Bond. The corners also look like the Gold Bond stuff. It was a semi cementious product similar to the current HardiPlank but in a 1x 8. It didn't do well around here because the technology to install it wasn't there yet. It was very hard to work with and equally hard on tools. Driving a nail in it by hand was an experience. If it is the Gold Bond siding, I haven't seen any of it since the mid 80's. Best of luck finding any although you probably could use the Hardi and have it look fairly close.

i think aluminum would match better than hardi, depends on the exposure

aluminum siding is still very much available, you may need to order [8'' probably not] and choices are limited
