Old addition on slab. Want to finish.

I have a 1950's era single story with a walk out basement. The main floor has an addition build on metal support posts. Under this addition is a concrete slab. I would like to finish under the addition. My problem is two fold.

1) The grade of the back yard is almost flush with the concrete slab and slopes toward the basement.

2) I'm not sure if the support posts are resting on the slab or have a footing of their own.

My solution. Cut back the slab and poor footings and a stem wall between the support posts. The stem wall will extend 6-12" above the back yard grade. Construct load bearing walls on the new stem wall and then remove the metal posts. Continue with the footing and stem wall where the post was removed.

Thoughts?

Good plan.

Put a French drain in while you're at it.
