Odd King Studs

1 Attachment(s)
I saw a 'scrapped together' frame job on this guy's front door today.
He had taken the drywall off to repair it and add a light switch so it was
exposed. The two left side king studs were pieced together as shown here.

I'm wondering if it was considered strong enough this way or if it was missed
in the inspection?
(Maybe it never was inspected? I didn't ask him about it, not enough time
there)
Any opinions?

Thanks

that is just weird. It could work, but seriously this kind of "corner cutting" is not worth it.

Yup, sure is! I imagine if they were nailed and wood-glued together, they'd be strong enough though.
You should see my thread in electric to see some of the thing I found in MY walls as they came down!

Depending on the lengths of the short pieces, my guess would be that someone realized after the fact that they had cut their kings and jacks all to the same length, and with the stud stretcher back at the shop, they decided to use some of their scrap.

Yeah, I too loaned my old wood stretcher out to someone. Sure miss that thing.
