Noise Reduction Windows?
Anyone know of companies that make noise deadening (reduction) windows? Our master bedroom right now just has Low E Gorell double hung windows and the sound from the road about 50 ft away just goes right through them (but then the seal on them must of broke because there is water between the two panes of glass, and part of the metal seperator streip inside the panels is rusting.....) not sure if Gorell makes them or not? anyone know if Gorell does? (since the company is in my town easiest to get them) but any other companies out there that make them too for repalcements? thanks

never heard
I've never heard of sound reduction as being a selling point for a window, but surely triple pane, low-density gas filled would help. You still have the frame to deal w/ though. I think you pointed out part of your problem; more dense air, and therefore a better conductor, is in you window. Call your local company, and let us know what you learn. thanks. john

Almost all window companies offer Argon, Krypton, or a combination of the two inert gasses to aid in noise/heat transferrance reduction. Gorell is one of them. Since they are local for you, I would give them a call and see what they have to offer you.

This is what you are looking for:

They don't list prices on their website (due to stickershock!) but normal sizes start out at $400 and go up from there.

It sounds like alot, but for one window and the peace of sleep, it may be worth it!

They installed a lot of these types of windows near Logan airport in Boston to reduce noise & be a good neighbor to residents

Gorell has a triple pane armor glass they claim to offer sound control.

You should e-mail them or call them up.
