New siding before new roof?
I have an old farm house that will be getting new siding and a new roof this spring/summer. Its a 3 story house with two sides of the house having a porch roof that will be getting metal sheet roofing. I don't have the roof yet, but do have the hardieplank and I would like to put it up first. I would like to get the hardi up now because it will be easier to walk on the old shingle roof for installation and painting purposes. However I'm not sure how to go about flashing the roof after the siding is up as the panels have specific fitted wall flashing. I'm sure there's an easy way to do this I'm just not coming up with any ideas yet. Thanks.

You can leave off the one coarse of siding above were the roof hits the house and finish that detail when you roof.

yeah but then I'm not sure what to do about the corner boards.

When the bottom edge of the wall ends on the roof doesn't the wall/roof flashing go over the shingles? So put the new flashing lapping the old shingles and apply your new siding. Then when you re-roof carefully pull the old shingles out from under the new flashing and slide the new shingles under.

If I was putting shingles back up, yes that would work. I'm using a pocket rib metal panel that has a profile fitted flashing.
