new porch railing

Building new railing around porch, it is covered, and was wondering if I could use non treated 2x4's if I sealed them or painted them. Trying to keep cost down.

For the few pennys more it's going to cost not worth the risk.
Unless you changed them something like vinyl, composite, powder coated there always going to a maintaince issue.
Cypruss, cedar, IPE would all be real wood but would hold up better.

If you go with pressure treated your going to have to only use ACQ approved fastners, wait months for it to dry out then it would be best to use a soild stain never paint if you want it to last.
Sherwin Williams Deck Scapes is a good one.
If you have a 2 X 4 top rail laying flat one way to add to the look and help protect the rail is to install composit decking board right on top of it.
