New Patio Cover

I am wanting to add a new patio cover ~18x10 that ties into our house so it gives us more height and a better look. I want to have a finished roof with 1x6 cedar layed opposite the joists for a nice look underneath, sheathing, and shingles to match roof. I have a few questions:

I want to have only one beam that goes from a 6x6 or 8x8 corner post to the house and need to know what size beam I would need and what material would be best to carry the load?

Also since I am building into a corner valley what would be the best way to attach there?

I have attached a couple photos. Any other tips would be great, let me know if I am forgetting anything.

Thanks

New Patio Cover

Sounds like you know exactly what you want design wise.

Do you have heavy snowfall where this home is located??

New Patio Cover

I would be more worried about wind load although we do get a little bit of snow but not much we are in the Dallas area. I was thinking that a 4x8 beam on 2 8x8s would suffice. I'm just not any good with calculations and wanted some input.

Thanks!
