I built a small storage shed / garage in my back yard and I am ready to install the prehung exterior door that I purchased. As you can see in the picture there is a concrete floor and block foundation. Do I need to install anything between the aluminum door sill and the concrete? I was planning on just putting a bed of silicon down on the concrete and then shim and screw the jambs. What is the best way to handle this situation?
50 year GE pure silicone. Expensive but good stuff.
Run a fat bead across the dry floor and up the sides a couple inches, and carefully stand the door on the silicone without dragging the silicone everywhere.
Maybe run a little more silicone where the slab meets the trimmers after the door is stood.
Look at the bottom of the door to make sure the best place to run the length of silicone will have plenty contact with the solid portion of the bottom side of the door.
on the bottom of the aluminium threshold you will notice there are voids. I fill those voids with spray foam to give it more insulation value as the aluminium tends to transfer the cold from outside to inside. Then I use a good silicone and seal the outer edges.
