New Dryall

We are remodeling our kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. We are down to the bare studs now, and I have gone to each room and replaced all receptacles and switches, including new boxes. A family member stopped by today and said "you know you'll have to remove all of those switches and plugs before the drywall guy comes". Now, I spent a lot of time replacing these, and added new ones, and moved some, and I was really feeling good about it, until now. Please tell me that I don't have to take all of these out. Surely the drywall guy and cut around them, right? Thanks, in advance, for your opinions and advice.

Your family member was wrong.

The drywall guy will like bare and empty boes, so he doesn't have to mark the boxes and instead just hit them with his router. But he can certainly hang the rock with trimmed out boxes, and he should do this without tears

I disagree---The tabs on the outlets and switches are designed to rest on the drywall

Installing the drywall with the switches and outlets in place will leave the fixtures unsupported.

You could take a pair of pliers and snap off all the tabs for the install and then replace them after the dust and painting is done.

Or pull them all out before the rock hanger shows up.

Those tabs do make it difficult for the drywall guy....you can unscrew the recept but just stuff it inside the box at an angle....

Most drywall guys use a roto zip tool to cut the holes....if the switches and recept are there...you will have a larger hole as he cuts around them.

If you live in a cold climate....you want as snug of a fit as you can get.....so...just unscrew the recept but not the wires...
