new commercial door in place of windows

helping out my brother. Existing 2x6 KD wall in commercial building has a 4 mulled set of casements, maybe 8' wide x 4' high. They are placed so that the top is at approx. 8 feet. This is the non gable end of building with a trussed and tinned roof. There is no sag and it seems there must be a nice header in there.

The door going in is a 72" commercial steel exterior insulated door with no astigrigal. Other than this I havent gotten the specs yet. Before I tear the window out in the 30 degree weather, I'd like a plan. We'll shove the door rough opening to one side of the old window opening so the existing king and jack studs will be used. The other side of the door will have a king stud to the old header above and jack stud to a new header underneath. The rest is framed in with new studs and cripples if needed.

Question being what type of header should be used in this application. This will be inspected as it is part of a much bigger project. It's a little odd... I dont think anything done right would fail but I want the door to be secure and not move as well as I assume the locking system will engage at the centers.

thanks all

Yes, I said that. I just wonder what the minimum header might be to properly support the steel door frame and locking system really. Still waiting for the R.O. so I dont expect them to be able to answer this. The old adage when in doubt overbuild is not always necessary.

Oh yeah. Short term memory loss while reading.

Well, it's hard to say what the inspector would want to see. Structurally, there's no load from above other than the weight of the wall and drywall above. You say your opening is "approximately" 96" tall. I would guess that your doors require about 87 or 88" tall rough opening for what I'm guessing is an 84" commercial door that has a thick aluminum frame. I'd plan to make the header fill the entire space above the door so that no cripples are required. Hard to say exactly what that would be since you haven't given the exact size of the existing R.O.
