This is probably a silly question but I'm clueless about foundation work.
My house is about 20 years old and had foundation work done about 5 years ago. My neighbor just had foundation work done on his house over the past week and all along the side of my house the ground is pulled away from the slab. I can look down about 1.5 ft. down the edge of the slab. The rest of the ground leading up to my house is sunken in slightly creating a bit of a trough.
This is only occurring on the side of my house adjacent to the neighbor that had the work and I'd say his house is about 15 ft. away. I was at work during the entire foundation repair so I have no idea what went on.
I'm hoping this is normal and a good rain will just settle all of the dirt. Is there anything that I should be concerned about?
Are both houses slab on grade? How deep are the foundations? What kind of foundation work was done on your house 5 years ago and what kind was just done on the neighbors?
If your house needed foundation work at 15 years old and neighbors at about 20 it makes me wonder if there is something going onwith the soil. Mine subsidence?, sink hole? built on poor fill or inadequately compacted fill?
