Need stucco advice

Hi, new home owner looking to remove some 3/4 inch decorative wood boards from the exterior of my home. The problem is, appears the previous owner put ~1/4 stucco on the inside borders of the wood. A bit difficult to explain - but essentially I believe my stucco will not be level once I remove the boards. (hopefully the pics help)

Any advise on what to do here to even things out? Any way I can grind down or remove the 1/4 inch of stucco? Or should I throw 1/4 stucco on top of the entire face of the house? Or do I have to remove all the stucco and do it all over again?

Need stucco advice

Let me try again to simplify my question. Can you grind away an uneven layer of stucco? Or do I have to remove it and restucco everything?
