One thing you might consider rather than built-ins is to by furniture cabinets that you can take with you.

That is a good idea, Ive saved absolutely everything thats been replaced here so far. Theres TOO much storage room in this place so its being put to good use. Im making a new post right now with 11 pictures as a walk through to everyone can see exactly what Im seeing and maybe help get more ideas in place. Ill post the link to it as soon as its finished.

If this post can be merged with this one, that would save some space

This is a walk through for everyone wanting to see what the deal is.

So,.................. You plan on going through the classes to get certified in lead paint work, because you're working on a rental property thats older than 1978?

Honestly, I could care less how you may or may not waste your money, but if a child gets lead poisoning while living in this place where you did this remodeling without the proper procedure (which isn't simple or easy by any means), SOMEONE will be on the hook for the liability. And the liabilty involved in a case like this will be far more substantial than the few bucks for new cabinets or countertops.............

BTW, the fine for not following RRP lead remodeling rules (if caught of course) is set at $37,500 per day. Not saying you'll get fined, the odds are extremely low in fact, but just trying to show you that it's fairly serious now to mess around with lead paint.

The new lead paint laws are very strict, & it is something to worry about
Since this is not your property you can't work on removing any lead paint unless you are certified
If you do the work you are then liable for damages & fines
If someone tries to fine your landlord for work you did you can bet he is going to tell them you did the work without his OK

As said odds are low you would get caught..OR turned in
Unless another renter turns him/you in
For the amount of $$ in fines involved its simply not worth the risk
