Need info on Basic Member Sizing etc.

Hello all,

Does anyone know where I can find info on how far certain lumber sizes can span? For example, how far can a 2x8 floor joist span before I have to go with 2X10's? Stuff like that.

Another thing I am wanting to do is build a garage with a 14' ceiling and I need to find out how tall an exterior garage wall can be in order to get this ceiling clearance? There must be a limit on how tall you can make the exterior walls before it becomes unstable??

I apologize if these are basic questions but would appreciate any help from anyone on this.

14' ceiling height I would build the wall at 14' 1/2" high to allow for drywall LMAO.
14' wall height supporting only roof in under 100mph wind zone is 2x6 for 16" oncenters or 2x4 on 8" centers

Thanks guys. Those tables are really helpful. But is there a limit to how tall a wall can be? I obviously cant have a 50' wall on a garage..correct?
