narrow frame dual pane windows
I am looking to replace some old single pane alum frame windows.
I am going to completely remove the old frames to maximize the glass area, so I would buy the "new construction" style with nailing flange. I have looked at Anderson, Marvin, Milgard.

I find that all of the new dual pane windows I have seen have much thicker frames than the old ones, resulting in less overall glass area and less light getting in. With a small window, even an extra 1/2" on the frame makes a difference. The smallest frame thickness now is about 2 3/8" and the old windows are around 1". The newest contender in replacement windows is the fiberglass frame, which is supposed to be so much stronger that it could be made thinner, but I don't see any manuf. taking advantage of this.

I can make the rough opening a bit taller to fit a larger window frame but cannot make it wider without major work. Any thin frame windows out there?
